The teacher companion to English 12B — British and World Literature: The Divided Self, the second semester of the charter curriculum’s English 4, built on the California CCSS for grades 11-12 and designed for UC A-G area B. It is a separate course from the student course, so you can work through it before a roster exists.
Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: what a senior literature semester asks after a semester of rhetoric, teaching texts that depict empire, racism, violence and mental distress with care and without censorship, pacing three full-length works through the spring of senior year, and working with editions, translations, performances and access. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each: a briefing on what students produce and the misreadings that arrive every year, a facilitation module for the seminar or lab and the writing workshop, and a scoring module with synthetic student work at three bands, what a scorer sees in each, and the one piece of feedback that moves it.
