The teacher companion to English 12A — Rhetoric and Argument: The Public Conversation, the first semester of the charter curriculum’s English 4, built on the California CCSS for grades 11-12 and designed for UC A-G area B. It is a separate course from the student course, so you can work through it before a roster exists.
Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: what a senior rhetoric course asks beyond English 11 in the same standards band, teaching contested arguments — satire, free speech, race and empire — without taking sides for students, pacing the semester so the researched argument gets its runway, and research integrity and access when every student has AI tools. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each: a briefing on what students produce and the misreadings that arrive every year, a facilitation module for the seminar or lab and the writing workshop, and a scoring module with synthetic student work at three bands, what a scorer sees in each, and the one piece of feedback that moves it.
