The teacher companion to English 11A — Founding Arguments and the American Self, the first semester of the charter curriculum’s English 3 (American literature and rhetoric), built on the California CCSS for grades 11-12 and designed for UC A-G area B. It is a separate course from the student course, so you can work through it before a roster exists.
Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: what the 11-12 band asks beyond grades 9-10, teaching founding documents and the voices they excluded without turning the course into a verdict on the nation, pacing a semester with a novel and four long essays, and access, sources and integrity. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each: a briefing on what students produce and the misreadings that arrive every year, a facilitation lesson for the seminar or lab and the writing workshop, and a scoring lesson with synthetic student work at three bands, commentary, and the one note that moves each piece.
