The teacher companion to Artificial Intelligence Design and Development A — Machine Learning, Media and the Human Body (California), the first semester of a full-year interdisciplinary arts course for grade 12 rebuilt on open sources from The VR School’s approved UC record P9M8JW. It is taught against the California Arts Standards for Media Arts and the CCSS literacy standards for science and technical subjects (RST, WHST and SL at 11-12).
Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: how it meets the Media Arts standards, area F and the approved record; teaching AI accurately without hype, including ethics and the U.S. Copyright Office position on AI-generated material; running critique and a safe studio with health content that never requires personal disclosure; and pacing, tools, student privacy under SOPIPA and access. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each: a briefing on what students produce and the misconceptions that arrive every year, a facilitation lesson for the critique lab and the production workshop, and a scoring lesson with synthetic student work at three bands, commentary and the one note that moves each piece.
Every number in the exemplars was recomputed from the student lessons, so you can score them against the lesson you just taught.
