AI-Inspired Tactile Art B — Composition, Meaning and Critique is the second semester of a full-year UC A-G area F (Visual Arts) course for grades 9-12, rebuilt on open sources from The VR School’s approved course record L8FYP6. It is aligned to the California Arts Standards for Visual Arts (2019), Accomplished and Advanced levels.
Four units: Composition in Three Dimensions, Pattern, Rhythm and Fiber, Symbol, Story and Feeling, and Critique, Exhibition and Reflection. Students compose tactile works with balance, rhythm and spatial arrangement, translate generative patterns into fiber, build collage and assemblage around a personal theme, examine AI ethics and copyright fairly, and close the year with a formal critique, an exhibition and a reflective essay.
Sources and tools: artworks studied through the CC0 open-access programs of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and The Metropolitan Museum of Art; U.S. Copyright Office reports and the court record in Thaler v. Perlmutter (public domain); lessons written for this course. The approved record’s DALL-E 3, newspaper article and museum video are replaced by teacher-run demonstrations, a teacher-provided AI image set, the open p5.js editor and our own texts. Students never need an account on an AI service.
