The teacher companion to Physics B — Energy, Thermal Physics, Electromagnetism and Waves (California), the second semester of a full-year, quantitative laboratory physics course for grades 11-12. It is built on the CA NGSS performance expectations HS-PS3-1 to HS-PS3-5, HS-PS4-1 to HS-PS4-5, HS-PS2-4 and HS-PS2-5 (electric and magnetic parts) and HS-ETS1-1 to HS-ETS1-4.
Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: how Physics B completes the area D case, lab safety for hot water, circuits, magnets, stretched strings and laser pointers under the CDE Science Safety Handbook, energy accounting and the math the semester needs, and pacing, simulators (PhET embedded, Falstad and USGS as link-outs) and access. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each: a briefing, a facilitation lesson for the investigation lab, the argumentation lab and the modeling workshop (with a lab report to calibrate on), and a scoring lesson with synthetic design reports at three bands, the errors they contain and the one piece of feedback that moves each.
Every number in the exemplars was recomputed from the same data the student lessons use.
