The teacher companion to Algebra 1B — Functions, Exponential and Quadratic Models (California), the second semester of a full-year UC A-G area C Algebra I course built on the CA CCSS for Mathematics and the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: how the two semesters together meet every Algebra I standard and the area C criteria, productive struggle and discourse norms for the derivations and proofs of this semester, supporting students with gaps in fractions, negatives, exponents and proportional reasoning without lowering rigor, pacing and what to cut, and tools and access. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each: a briefing, a facilitation module for the discourse lab and the modeling workshop, and a scoring module with synthetic student work at three bands, the errors it contains and the feedback that moves each.
Every number in the exemplars matches the worked examples in the student lessons.
