Semester B is approved by UC as record D594AS, held by The VR School. Its six units run from directing through post-production to distribution and festivals, ending with production tips and mobile filmmaking. This Open Curriculum Edition covers them in four units of five lessons each, and every unit lists the record units it covers.

Mapping. Unit 1 combines Directing and Working with Actors with Production Tips and Mobile Filmmaking. The record places mobile filmmaking last, but it belongs with directing in practice: students direct and shoot a scene on phones, and the efficiency tips the record describes are part of running a set. Unit 2 is Advanced Editing and Sound. Unit 3 is Special Effects and Titles. Unit 4 combines Film Distribution Strategies with Film Festivals and Publicity, since a festival run is the first step of a short film’s distribution. The record’s key assignments (a directed scene with shot list and script notes; a multi-angle edit with a mixed soundtrack; a title sequence and a simple effect; a distribution plan; a festival packet with synopsis, press release and poster; and a scene filmed and edited entirely on a phone) all appear as labs or portfolio projects.

Standards. Semester B carries most of pathway C standard C7 (licensing, business models, distribution and marketing) and C6 (promotion), revisits C1 (safety), C3 (team roles) and C5 (workflow), and completes the anchor standards, especially anchor 3 (career planning), anchor 8 (ethics and law) and anchor 11 (demonstration, portfolio and entrepreneurship). Pathway A standards appear where students analyze and design: montage, effects, titles and posters. A few pathway B codes (B3, B6) appear in the directing unit, where students analyze and direct performance.

College-preparatory rigor. Students write director’s statements that compare intention with result using specific evidence, analyze editing with measurable evidence such as average shot length, apply the four fair-use factors to real cases, and write a distribution plan and press materials that must hold up to peer review. Their technical work is quantitative (timecode, loudness, bitrates, caption reading speeds, credit-roll speeds, festival budgets, revenue splits), and every portfolio project is revised after critique and defended.

Industry credentials. Where the school licenses Adobe applications, students may pursue the Adobe Certified Professional in Video Design. The course names it as optional and does not claim to prepare students for it on its own; it teaches the underlying editing, sound, titling and delivery skills on open-source tools.
