Teaching English 10B — Delivery Guide & Professional Development

The teacher companion to English 10B — Power, Voice and Change, the second semester of the charter curriculum’s English 2, built on the California CCSS for grades 9-10 and designed for UC A-G area B. It is a separate course from the student course, so you can work through it before a roster exists.

Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: what changes in the second semester, teaching performance and recorded speaking as assessed work, pacing toward the portfolio defense, and assessing growth across the whole year. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each — Julius Caesar, the poems of protest and change, the seminal presidential addresses, and Helen Keller’s The Story of My Life — with a briefing on what students produce and the misreadings that arrive every year, a facilitation module, and a scoring module with synthetic student work at different bands and the feedback that moves each.
