explain how Semester B delivers the approved record’s composition, conceptual-depth and critique units, and how it raises the standards from Accomplished to Advanced.
Semester A delivered the approved record’s first two units — AI-generated imagery and tactile interpretation, and tactile mediums and techniques — and began its fifth, critique and reflection. Semester B delivers the other two and completes the fifth. Each student unit names the record units it covers.
The record’s representative assignments. Record Unit 3 asks for a tactile artwork that incorporates balance, rhythm and spatial arrangement, inspired by an AI-generated image: Portfolio Task 5 (Lesson 1.5), with Portfolio Task 6 (fiber rhythm, 2.5) extending it. Record Unit 4 asks for a tactile artwork that explores a personal theme or concept, drawing inspiration from an AI-generated image: Portfolio Task 7 (3.5). Record Unit 5 asks for a peer critique in which students present final tactile artworks and give feedback, and a reflective essay on their artistic journey: Portfolio Task 8 (4.5), with its Critical Response Process session and 900-1,200 word essay.
Rising levels. Semester B works at the Accomplished level (HSII) in Units 1 and 2 and reaches the Advanced level (HSIII) in Units 3 and 4: comparing differing interpretations (Re8.HSIII), constructing evaluations from differing criteria (Re9.HSIII), balancing freedom and responsibility in the use of images (Cr2.2.HSIII), making work about a personally meaningful theme (Cr2.1.HSIII), justifying curatorial choices (Pr4.HSIII) and synthesizing personal, social and cultural knowledge (Cn10.HSIII). Expect a real step up in writing and discussion from Unit 3.
The record’s assessment criteria. The approved record names seven: creativity and originality, interpretation of AI-generated imagery, technical skill, composition and design, emotional impact and conceptual depth, experimentation and risk-taking, and peer and self-assessment. Every Semester B rubric maps to them; Lesson 4.3 asks students to evaluate a classmate’s work against them directly.
Continuity from Semester A. Students keep their texture library, sketchbook and semester reflection. Begin the semester by having students reread their Semester A goals and choose one to pursue in Unit 1. For students joining in Semester B, a short catch-up on clay joins, the texture library and touch testing (one lesson) is enough; pair them with a Semester A student.
The tools. p5.js returns in Unit 2 as a pattern generator. The AI image set continues; refresh it with images suited to composition (Unit 1), rhythm (Unit 2) and theme (Unit 3).
