Filmmaking and Digital Media B — Directing, Post-Production and Distribution (Open Curriculum Edition)
Filmmaking and Digital Media B — Directing, Post-Production and Distribution (Open Curriculum Edition) is the second semester of a full-year CTE course in Arts, Media and Entertainment (pathway C, Production and Managerial Arts). It covers the six units of The VR School’s approved UC semester record D594AS on open sources and free, open-source tools.
Four units: Directing Actors and Mobile Production, Editing and Sound Design, Visual Effects, Titles and Credits, and Distribution, Festivals and the Filmmaker’s Career. Students direct classmates in a rehearsed scene, shoot and edit a scene entirely on a phone, edit and mix a multi-angle sequence, build a composited effect and a title sequence, and finish with a festival submission packet, a distribution plan and a career portfolio.
Tools: phones or school cameras, Shotcut or Kdenlive, Audacity, and free open-source design tools (GIMP, Inkscape or Krita) for posters. Music comes from Creative Commons Attribution sources, credited. Where the school licenses Adobe applications, students may also work toward the optional Adobe Certified Professional in Video Design credential; this course alone does not claim to prepare them for it.
This is the Open Curriculum Edition. A separate Textbook Edition of the course exists; this edition is built entirely on public-domain films and openly licensed sources.
