English 12B — British and World Literature: The Divided Self is the second semester of a two-semester, college-preparatory Grade 12 English course aligned to the California Common Core State Standards (grades 11-12) and built to UC A-G Subject Area B expectations.
Four units: Hamlet (a mind divided against itself, and the play in performance), A Doll’s House (Ibsen’s marriage play in translation, with O’Neill’s Ile), Heart of Darkness (Conrad’s frame narrative and the critical debate over it, with Twain and Plaatje), and The Speaking Voice (British poetry from Blake to Yeats, the dramatic monologue, and Robinson and FitzGerald).
