Artificial Intelligence Design and Development B is the second semester of a full-year UC A-G area F (Interdisciplinary Arts) course, taught against the California Arts Standards for Media Arts (grades 9-12, mostly Accomplished and Advanced levels) and the CCSS literacy standards for science and technical subjects.
Four units: AI in the Clinic: Case Studies from Past to Present, Building Small Models: Testing AI as Designers, Engineering Design and the Patent Drawing, and Capstone: A Biomedical AI Innovation from Concept to Exhibition. Students give a TED-style talk or illustrated podcast, build a science-fair exhibit around a tested prototype, write and draw a hypothetical patent, and present a capstone innovation in a public exhibition.
Sources: FDA device records and safety communications, NIH and National Library of Medicine publications, USPTO patent documents and guidance (all public domain), and OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology 2e (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0; referenced, not reproduced). The course replaces the commercial textbook named in the approved record with these open sources. No student is required to create an account on any AI tool; AI demonstrations are teacher-run.
