The teacher companion to Spanish 1B — Food, Community, Free Time and Plans (California), the second semester of a full-year Spanish 1 course built on the 2019 World Languages Standards for California Public Schools and designed for UC A-G area E, level 1. It brings students to ACTFL Novice High by the end of the year.
Before anything else: every Spanish string in the student course and in this guide is machine-authored. A native or heritage speaker of Spanish must review the course before students use it. Its status is pending native-speaker review; Module 1, Lesson 1.1 explains what the review covers.
Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: how it meets the standards and area E, moving students from Novice Mid to Novice High, pacing and what to cut, and access, sensitive history (the missions), heritage speakers and integrity. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each: a briefing on what students produce and the errors that arrive every year, a facilitation lesson for the interpersonal lab and the presentational workshop, and a scoring lesson for the unit’s Integrated Performance Assessment with synthetic student work at three levels.
