Spanish 2A — Routines, Celebrations and Journeys (California)

Spanish 2A — Routines, Celebrations and Journeys is the first semester of second-level Spanish (UC A-G area E). It is built on the California World Languages Standards (2019) and targets ACTFL Novice High to Intermediate Low.

Four units: ¡Bienvenidos otra vez! Repaso y comunidad (a review of Spanish 1 through California’s Spanish place names), La rutina diaria (reflexive verbs), Fiestas y celebraciones (the preterite, regular forms and key irregulars) and Viajes por la California hispana (more irregular preterites, travel, the missions and El Camino Real with Native perspectives). Each unit ends in a three-mode Integrated Performance Assessment.

Instruction starts with English scaffolding and moves steadily into Spanish. The teaching baseline is Mexican and Central American Spanish as spoken in California, and other varieties (including voseo and Peninsular forms) are named and accepted. Heritage speakers have an extension path in every unit, and no student is ever penalized for their dialect.
