Physical Science B — Forces, Energy and Waves is the second semester of a full-year laboratory science course for grades 9-10 (UC A-G area D). It is built on the California NGSS high-school performance expectations for motion and stability (HS-PS2), energy (HS-PS3), waves and information (HS-PS4) and engineering design (HS-ETS1), with the CCSS literacy standards for science and technical subjects.
Four units: Motion, Forces and Collision Safety, Gravity, Electricity and Magnetism, Energy Conservation and Transformation, and Waves and Information. Each unit opens with a California phenomenon, includes a hands-on lab with inexpensive, school-safe materials (no open flames and no hazardous chemicals), and ends in a multi-draft performance task; two units are built around engineering design challenges.
