The teacher companion to World History B — World Wars, Cold War and the Contemporary World (California), the second semester of grade 10 Modern World History, built on California History-Social Science standards 10.6-10.11, the grades 9-12 Historical and Social Sciences Analysis Skills, and the grades 9-10 CCSS literacy standards for history/social studies. It is designed for UC A-G area A.
Module 1 covers the semester as a whole: how it meets the standards and A-G, and pacing; teaching the twentieth century beyond Europe; teaching the Holocaust, genocide and atrocity with care; and source reading, the copyright rule — why Night and Anne Frank’s diary are summarized — access, and the yearly update routine for the contemporary lessons. Modules 2-5 take one student unit each: a briefing on what students produce and the misreadings that arrive every year, a facilitation module for the seminar and the writing workshop, and a scoring module with synthetic student work at three bands and the feedback that moves each.
