Geometry A is the first semester of a full-year, UC A-G area C Geometry course aligned to the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
Four units: Constructions and Rigid Transformations, Congruence and Proof, Similarity and Right-Triangle Trigonometry. Students make formal constructions with compass and straightedge and with GeoGebra, define congruence and similarity through transformations, write and critique two-column, paragraph and flow proofs, and use similarity and trigonometry to measure what cannot be reached directly.
Tools: GeoGebra and Desmos (free), a compass, straightedge and protractor, and a scientific calculator. No purchased software is required. Continues in: Geometry B (solids, coordinate geometry, circles and conditional probability).
