English 11B — Land, Citizenship and the Modern American Story is the second semester of a two-semester, college-preparatory Grade 11 course in American literature and rhetoric, aligned to the California Common Core State Standards (Grades 11-12) and built to UC A-G Subject Area B expectations.
Four units: Land and Law in California (The Squatter and the Don, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Twain), Trifles and the Short Story (Glaspell, Gilman, Chopin, Sui Sin Far), Citizenship and the Color Line (the Reconstruction amendments, Plessy, Wong Kim Ark, Du Bois, Harper, Pokagon), and The Great Gatsby and the Researched Capstone (Fitzgerald and Yezierska).
